Prunus spinosa ‘Blackthorn’ seeds collected from garden plant

A bit of a tangent…

Considering AI hubbub lately I find it more and more interesting to share my personal experiences and observations on my own private website. Not feeding youtube, instagram and the like with my content. Does anybody read this? I have no idea since I don’t do any analytics. Seeing the numbers would only discourage me I guess. However it may be I believe it’s important to make your own observations. Sometimes I enjoy documenting my observations and putting them online. I once tried to buy Prunus mume seeds online. What I got looked suspicious and it wasn’t that easy to get reliable information on how Prunus mume seeds actually look like. Recently I also heard that AI models generate pictures of birds and it becomes increasingly difficult to identify birds by online pictures. Even the AI can’t tell anymore which is real and which is not.

To the actual topic:

I gathered seeds from my Prunus spinosa that I planted in my garden almost 10 years ago. It had plenty of fruits this autumn and I could even make two bottles of sloe gin. The rest of the fruits are still mostly hanging on the twigs. If the need stratification that should be taken care of as we had a pretty cold winter so far. I used side cutters to crack the pits. What you see in the photos are the actual seeds without the fruit and pit that surround the seed. I’ll try to germinate them in Spring.
