The setup is very simple: A weed burner and a 11kg cylinder of propane. This must have been the quickest glaze firing I’ve ever done. This kiln gets up to 1200°C in about 2 to 3 hours with no rush. You can probably break some pots if you go too fast (especially big ones). I will try to use it for bisque firing but that might be tricky. It might work with the lid cracked open and a very small flame.
I plan to add sheet metal to the sides and top of the kiln to protect the ceramic fiber from damage and also from fibers getting air born easily. Also the thermo couple needs protection. It’s one of those cheap chinese S-type thermo couples with very thin wires that are exposed at the screw terminals. The “chimney” is not in its final stage either. I just added some ceramic fiber to keep the paint from burning off. I will probably add a little stub chimney just to keep the hot gases away from the metal frame.
