Preparing another kiln firing, glaze tests and hidasuki experiment

Having another go at the ‘hidasuki’ pottery. I still don’t really know how it’s done, what type of clay you need and I certainly don’t have rice straw. But I’m going to try anyway. I used string to tightly wrap dried bamboo twigs and leafs around the pots. I also just added some material and put a bowl on top of it. It will be interesting to see the results. I also have some glaze tests in the kiln. It’s one white base glaze with different colorants in differents amount mixed into it. Hoping for some interesting blueish green colors. Also trying out a glaze with very high iron oxide content (5..10% if I remember correctly). It’s hard to keep good records on what I do because often there’s a long time between making pots and glazing and finally seeing the fired result. So it looks like I’m building a small kiln very soon. Hopefully that will speed up experiments. I’ll document the kiln built as good as I can.
